For the very first time a private polo field is being opened up for public consumption this Sunday. Set on an elusive 58 acre property in the Mornington Peninsula, the exact location is being kept secret to guests until the day before chukkas begin.

Here are the details we can reveal. Less hectic in atmosphere than its sister event – the Portsea Polo – has become, Flinders Polo is intended to be picnic-style from intimate car-boot sites. Each comes with a butler to assist with set up and serve guests elderflower-spiked G&Ts and chatter-friendly bites like Gruyere, saffron and asparagus tartlets or one-bite Nutella donuts sprinkled with raspberry sugar. The Olympic standard field, which will host shortform, fast-paced polo is surrounded by manicured, celebrity designer gardens, a two storey limestone residence, azure lap pool and grass tennis courts. And when you can catch a Microflite helicopter there, why would you travel any other way?
