The much-anticipated ‘The House of Dior: 70 Years of Haute Couture’ fashion exhibition has now arrived at the National Gallery of Victoria. In honour of the show, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins has designed a series of “couture cocktails” based on the design codes threaded throughout Christian Dior’s work.
‘The Parfum’ cocktail (Remy Martin VSOP cognac, Tanqueray gin, Earl Grey syrup, Pernod, grapefruit bitters) is a nod to the launch of his Miss Dior perfume during the New look era and is served in a Navy Strength Ice perfume bottle with a smoked glass.
‘The 18th Century’ (Kettle One vodka, Crème de Cassis, Crème de Mure, lime juice, white chocolate and pineapple foam, Persian saffron fairy floss) draws upon similar inspirations as the House would have: French history, the Palace of Versaille and even Marie Antoinette’s pouf.
Juxtaposing a sharp martini glass and soft garnish, ‘The Line’ (spiced rum, Pedro Ximenez, Mozart Dark, fresh fig) takes after Christian Dior’s signature silhouettes.
Finally, ‘The Flower’ (Grey Goose Le Citron vodka, Lillet Blanc, Crème de Violette rosewater-infused pink rose ice sphere) pays homage to the designer’s use of floral motifs and affinity for gardens.
The cocktails are served at the Atrium Bar on 35 from now until November 4th.
